Buying advice · CORE Bike Fit Devon
Should I get a bike fit before buying a bike?
A fit before purchase helps you understand the position and geometry that work for you, so you can choose a new bike with more confidence. You do not need to own the new bike before booking Frame Finder.
Why fit before you buy?
A size label is only a starting point. Bikes with the same labelled size can have different geometry, and the position you can achieve also depends on the saddle, cockpit and adjustment range. Looking at the rider first gives the buying decision a clearer starting point.
A pre-purchase fit is especially useful when you are between sizes, moving to a different type of bicycle, buying a frame online or considering a significant investment.
How does Frame Finder work?
At CORE Bike Fit in Topsham, we use the adjustable Purely Custom fit jig to explore your position before choosing a frame. The session considers your riding goals and the relationship between your feet, saddle and handlebars. We can then compare that position with the geometry of bikes on your shortlist.
What measurements matter?
Frame stack and reach help describe the front of the bike relative to the bottom bracket. Saddle height, saddle position and the cockpit setup also affect the position you can actually ride. The aim is to understand the complete setup and its adjustment range, rather than choosing from a single measurement.
How much is Frame Finder?
Frame Finder is £250. It includes a one-hour return session after you buy your bicycle, so we can set it up to the measurements from your fit.
Does it include the new bike?
The session is a fitting and sizing service; the bicycle and any new components are separate purchases. Discuss your shortlist and budget with Jon before ordering so any proposed setup is clear.
What should I bring?
- Your usual cycling shoes, cycling kit and any footbeds or orthotics you ride with.
- Details of your current bicycle and what feels good or difficult about its position.
- A shortlist of bikes or frames, including the model and sizes you are considering.
- Your plans for the new bike: everyday riding, long-distance events, racing or another goal.
What if I am considering a Pinarello?
We can discuss your position alongside the options you are considering. Visit our Pinarello purchase page and explore the current Pinarello range at CORE Bike Shop.
What if I have already bought my bike?
You can still book a fit using your existing bicycle. Jon can assess the current setup and discuss the changes available within its adjustment range. Compare the fitting options →
Can we talk before I book?
