Bike fit questions, answered
Thinking about a bike fit? Here are straightforward answers to the questions riders ask me most often, from choosing a session to getting ready for your appointment.
How much does a bike fit cost?
At CORE Bike Fit, a road-bike fit starts at £250 for Align, £295 for Balance or £495 for Complete. Time-trial and triathlon fits are £300, £345 and £545 respectively. Frame Finder is £250 and includes a one-hour return session to set up your new bike.

Should I have a bike fit before buying a bike?
Yes, a pre-purchase fit can help you choose suitable geometry and a workable position before you commit. Frame Finder uses an adjustable fit jig to explore your measurements and compare potential bikes.

Which bike fit should I choose?
The right session depends on your goals and how much assessment and follow-up support you want. Start with Find Your Fit to compare the options. If you are unsure, a free consultation gives us time to discuss your riding before you book.
How do I choose a bike fitter?
Look for someone with relevant training, thoughtful reviews and an approach that makes you feel comfortable asking questions. A good fit is a conversation: the fitter should listen to your experience, explain the changes and help you understand what happens afterwards.
Check their training and IBFI credentials
Ask about recognised training, experience and ongoing professional development. If a fitter says they are IBFI certified, check their current listing and certification level in the International Bike Fitting Institute’s Find a Fitter directory. Certification is a useful starting point alongside the fitter’s experience and approach.
Read the reviews for the details that matter
Look beyond the star rating. Recent reviews that describe how the fitter listened, explained adjustments and supported riders afterwards can be more useful than a score alone. Look for experiences relevant to your riding, whether that is everyday cycling, long distances, racing or a first bike fit.
Choose someone approachable and communicative
You should feel able to say when something does not feel right. Look for a fitter who asks about your goals, gives you time to describe your experience and explains recommendations in clear language. A consultation is a useful opportunity to get a feel for that relationship before booking.
Understand what is included
Ask how long the session takes, what assessment is involved, whether you receive your measurements and recommendations, and what follow-up support is available. Discuss possible extra costs for components or equipment before agreeing to buy anything.
Look for an individual approach
Ask about experience with your type of bike and riding. Technology can provide useful information, but the fitter should explain how they use it alongside observation, your goals and your feedback.
Useful questions to ask before booking
- What training and certification do you hold?
- Have you worked with riders with similar goals and bikes?
- What is included in the appointment price?
- How will you explain and record my changes?
- What should I do if I need help after the fit?

Do I need to be an experienced cyclist?
No. You can be new to cycling, riding for enjoyment, preparing for longer distances or refining a racing position. The session starts with you: how you ride, what you notice and what you would like to change.
How long does a bike fit take?
Allow around 2.5 hours for Align or Balance and around 3 hours for Complete. Check the appointment details when booking so you leave enough time for the full session.
What should I bring?
Bring your bike, cycling shoes, usual cycling clothing and any footbeds or orthotics you use while riding. Bring the shoes and equipment you actually ride with, and let Jon know about any planned changes. For Frame Finder, bring your current bike details and a shortlist of bikes you are considering.
Should I buy new shoes, a saddle or handlebars first?
If you are uncertain about new equipment, speak to Jon before buying it. We can discuss your current setup and whether a change may be useful. Any equipment recommendations and additional costs can be discussed before you decide.
What happens during the fit?
We discuss your riding, goals and current position, then work through the contact points between you and the bicycle. Your feedback helps guide changes to the feet, cleats, saddle and cockpit. See the bike fitting process for more detail.
What support is available afterwards?
Balance includes a 90-day fit guarantee: if you make all the changes recommended during your fit and things still do not feel right, contact us within 90 days. We will continue working with you to address your issues and find a solution as best we can. Complete includes two follow-up sessions within 12 months. Check your chosen service for its full inclusions.
Can I speak to Jon by phone or video?
Yes. The free 30-minute consultation is available in person, by phone or virtually. It is a chance to discuss your needs and options before booking your fitting session.
